Where was the Phantom Mayor of this City?

By  | December 9, 2017 | 24 Comments | Filed under: TIME FOR A NEW MAYOR AND 90% of COUNCIL IN 2018

It is a known fact that Mayor Doug Craig attended the Annual Cambridge Santa Claus Parade.
On Saturday December 2nd, Hespeler, also known as The Village on the River held their Annual Santa Claus Parade but there was no sign of our Mayor DOUG CRAIG.

All EIGHT members of City Council were present, took time from their schedules and many of them even shook hands and spoke to residents in attendance at the parade and supported the annual event which make our community proud.

Also Mayor Craig, where were you (?) or is the annual Hespeler Santa Claus Parade not an important enough event for you to attend or is Hespeler no longer a part of the City of Cambridge.

He probably had a meeting with Tibbets planning the “shovel ready” site with our Taxpayers money$$ Probably why John Cook got the short end of the stick – since when do we have Gyms with Rinks??? This was not the plan………
John Cook should get the Rinks and the Mall get the Aquatics – what is so complicated about this? Makes perfect sense.
John Cook knows how to run Rinks. He has proven his worth. And why are Taxpayers paying for Ice Time and it is not being used? Interesting. And I talked to a City Employee who plays hockey outside of Cambridge because of no ice time. Does the right hand not know what the left hand has to offer???
So as I said, he was likely meeting with Tibbets on Sat. to plan his rude conduct towards John Cook on Mon. evening – along with threatening a disabled Senior. Really – is this what it has come down to??
We get people that know their jobs & they get jerked around by those that do not know their job – any more. Just know how to give our money away to Tibbets – disgusting. Ridiculous. Just not right for a City this size……something very wrong here. 2018 ELECTION COMING – WAKE UP TAXPAYERS!!

You know, just looking at Doug Craig makes me sick! Doug is such a corrupt politician and I wish someone would get some really good dirt on Doug so he could not run for office this October.

Here are some suggested cutbacks to keep taxes lower:
    1. Partner out more ice rinks.
    2. Stop LRT coming to Cambridge, especially after taxpayers carry the burden of the over budget costs of 50M due to delayed trains…and use rapid buses as they can reach more remote areas and we can have more of them.
    3. Position of Mayor should include role on Regional Council, and not as a second paid position…stop payment for something the Mayor should be doing anyways
    4. Cut back on the higher salaries such as that of Gary Dyke and the Fire Chief.

    5. The best til last…SELL City Hall to a big business, for a profit, and instead of funding a City Hall Hub at The Mall, save dollars and when building the pool at the mall, include the city hall departments and make City Hall central to the City of Cambridge.

    6. SELL the Old Post Office to that new company that wants a stone building in the downtown core…make money off of it instead of closing and cutting back on library services cause there is no more money in the budget. How stupid it was to say enough library dollars for a second library downtown Galt and now the libraries are the first to get cut backs. Now we know it was just games to let the owners of The Mill get off the hook with that building to allow them that hotel/condo that will block the river.

Obviously all the new taxes supposedly coming from all this new development hasn’t helped with the taxes so stop crowding this city and making the taxes go up and up.

And final note…this is the City of Cambridge. We should only have one parade for the whole of the city. This separation into communities is nothing but a fight that needs to end. Yes, the Mayor should have showed up for the event since it happened, but come on. Are we Cambridge or Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair?????

Easy answer – we are Galt – as you noted above – that is where all our tax dollars is spent. It is a no-brainer. The Mayor is doing the dividing!!!!
The Hespeler Parade does not separate anyone or anything – it is just another CHRISTMAS celebration and open to all.
But I agree with all your cutbacks you mentioned – but because they are in Galt – will never happen$$$
John Cook should get the Rinks -2 or 4 of them – he knows his business. But he was shot down at the last Council meeting – on purpose by Craig – he is still aiming for Conestoga – there is no mistake there – wake up people….
Put the Aquatics & gyms & whatever else is needed at the Mall – a no brainer.
Also people complain we have no indoor Tennis in Cambridge. We do now have 1 1/2 courts in HESPELER – thanks to that person with a dream.
We have named the LRT – WEE – “WHITE ELEPHANT EXPRESS” – it goes nowhere$$
We need more people attending Council meetings to see just what a mess our City is in because of the misdirection of Craig. He has lost sight of his purpose.
    And yes he is double-dipping$$$
2018 ELECTION coming – wish all Cambridge residents would wake up before too late!!$$

Re tax cutbacks – the City had the chance to get $20,000. each for two Cell towers erected on Sheffield St. – we complained to our Councillor Donna that they were being put too close to houses & to put on City property owned on Sheffield & get the 40,000./year. Oh, no, they ignored our request & put on a factory on Sheffield who now gets the $40,000./year. Our Councillor did not even know the City owned the property where these towers could have been installed. See the left hand does not know what right hand doing$$$$$$
They are actually illegal where they are – too close to homes – but City does not care. So good luck to the guy trying to object to them on Puslinch Lake – they’ll go up & people have no say at all. Our health & danger point.

Yikes! A huge snub of the Beehive village. A real bad choice here. I just saw Donna wants to give 4x’s lasts years city donation to a group she likes. All other cuts are happening but her pet gift. We would not be in financial trouble if they could get the fire dept. spending under control and the pet projects for Galt stopped. I read the fire dept. spent 50 grand on mouse control one year. I wonder if the company is owned by a fireman doing their 2nd job. Is Frank dyeing his hair? As much as he is a poor member I do hope his health improves. The more I hear Donna and Pam at meetings the more I am glad I have my wife. Speaking of Lucy, I just bought her a new snow blower. She broke the pull cord on the last one as I watched her doing the driveway.

Just one more waynthe city likes to overlook the Village north of the 401. But you know what next year is an election year and maybe a few residents North of the 401 will be vocal

    • poperingo1@yahoo.ca'
      poperingo December 14, 2017 at 9:03 pm

      A) Almost nobody on this side of the 401 really cares if the Mayor was there or not. B) Politicians should not be in a Christmas parade anyway C) Hespeler was not a village when we amalgamated, it was a town, so I call it the Town of Hespeler.

  9. mjqsmith@bell.net'
    informed December 14, 2017 at 10:33 pm

A – he should have been there. B. It was nice to see the Councillors partake. C. Guess you are right but Village sounds quainter.
And read the Times – everyone enjoyed the fellowship of the Hespeler Parade.
Now we just need to get all those people that attended the Parade to get interested in where the Complex should go. Be informed. Rinks at Ice Park on Franklin and the pool, gym, etc. at the Mall on Hespeler Rd. Makes sense. Lets do something right in Cambridge. Let our Mayor know your opinion otherwise he is still involved with Tibbets & Conestoga is not shovel ready. LIES FROM YOUR MAYOR!! BE INFORMED BEFORE THE 2018 ELECTION. Or be quiet when he spends your money on someone else’s property. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! NOW OR NEVER!!!

    Villager December 15, 2017 at 7:23 am

Yes I agree, Hespeler was a town when it amalgamated and it was the only one of the three communities that did not have any debt..now look…this City spends way more then they are getting in… Hespeler which is North of the 401 seems to be ignored by our Mayor…wish he would ignore us when it comes time for a Tax Increase…do we really want him to be at OUR Santa Claus parade…in all honesty NO…but since all the other Councillors were able to make it he really should have been there!! Oh well I guess when he moved out of Hespeler he decided he would never return to this end of the City…Can’t wait to 2018…Get Rid of his arrogance!!!

  11. Kefran@bell.net'
    Defiant December 15, 2017 at 7:29 am

I agree with you Informed…we need to get the people to come to the Council Meetings with regard to the BIGGEST
AND MOST EXPENSIVE UNDERTAKING this City will enter into…This complex needs to be CENTRAL to CAMBRIDGE..not located at CONESTOGA COLLEGE…It needs to be suited for the needs of this community…we have to remember that there is also an aging population here so it MAKES NO SENSE to locate a facility such as that at Conestoga College..The facility needs to be Central!!! Come out to the Council Meeting in February everyone….bring your friends….bring your children…bring your enemies….After all Council needs to see you care!!! Don’t sit back and complain if Council decides on something that you Don’t Want…You Can be rest assured SOME COUNCIL MEMBERS DO NOT CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT!!!

I spoke with some people at a dinner in Preston a few days ago. Carl Keffer the phantom regional rep., and the city’s lack of spending fair tax dollars in Preston were real hot topics that got other tables of people involved. Galt gets, Galt gets, was all we heard. Seems everywhere in Preston Mann, Craig and Reed get ripped. Let’s put the SIS near Mike Mann’s home for a trial period then Donna’s, Pam’s and Doug’s. Word I hear on the street is that any council person or mayor that votes in favor of SIS should be tossed. My election stance is to say no. Too bad past drunks never got treated the way they are treating skin pokers. Why are we made to feel guilty for their choices?

How many of you have seen the cards I had made up? WHY WOULD ANYONE ELECT A COP OR TEACHER FOR COUNCIL EVER AGAIN?

  14. kefran@bell.net'
    Dreamr December 15, 2017 at 2:43 pm

Gee I would love to see some of those cards..NO COPS NO TEACHERS on Council in 2018…Let’s get rid of them and get some REAL Councillors in there that do care about the needs of this City and quit the constant spending on things that are not needed until the money is available…oh what a dream…

  15. mjqsmith@bell.net'
    Curious December 15, 2017 at 3:55 pm

No have no seen these necessary cards. Where can we view them? Keep them handy for 2018 election. Must get rid of the double dipping Mayor plus his Regional dipping. Disgusting. And these people set the budget for us low-income residents. 2018 – sure hope some good people run in next election – out with the old – in with the new.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
It will be a great 2018 if we can get a new Mayor & some Councillors that can think for themselves and not be afraid to think and vote for themselves.
Our Mayor has a little elf – which is the same as a “yes” elf but we need new blood with new ideas – maybe figure out how to get a Go-train from Kitchener to T.O. and quit building here until this happens.
We seem to have a Mayor that gets people into Cambridge but not a clue how to get them out. Really!
And the COMPLEX issue – build the Rinks at Ice Park – Franklin & the Aquatics at the Mall – this is a no-brainer. Get going – get private & public funding – no more Conestoga. Dead issue – except between Craig & Tibbets – NO MORE!!!!!!!!
Again MERRY CHRISTMAS & a hope for the future of a better wiser Cambridge.

I will pass on 10 cards to each person that wants them. 500 made for under 25 bucks. Worst council ever to collect a paycheck. I mention pensions, bad choices, and following their head duck on any vote. Frank cost this city over 7 grand by not offering a simple explanation to a council member for his poor call. Frank doesn’t look good at all. Pity.

  18. kefran@bell.net'
    TICKED December 18, 2017 at 11:33 am

Tom…I need some of those cards…the message just has to get out…the people need to know what kind of Council we have right now….Oh Frankie…He needs to be TURFED…HE has no respect and does not apologize when he is wrong…WALKS into Council like a Peacock….we don’t need the likes of that on Council…Mike Mann…Oh he does WHATEVER STAFF RECOMMENDS…don’t need Yes Men like that on council…We need People with a SPINE!!! PEOPLE that will consider what the PEOPLE want NOT WHAT STAFF WANTS!!! Let’s get those cards out there

Where is the phantom during all this press that is hurting our city’s reputation Province wide? Where does Gary Dyke stand in all this? As leaders they should address this situation that is on many lips. Hiding and hoping it goes away makes things worse. We have been damaged as a respected community. Where is the zero tolerance and peoples rights? No means no. Same old way to handle things if your on the good ship lollipop. Who’s the cop? This shows me how it really works. Something big is coming down the pipe I hear in February or early March. I don’t see Mann out in the community coffee shops any more. Election years are great times to open the files we have been building. I can see debates filled with questions on impaired driving, Price bumps, sexual misconduct, Galt overspending, the Preston Dam, malcontents, Sportsplex, taxes, Police coming to homes, treatment of citizens at council, SIS, lack of action on the needle issues, paying Police to be at meetings for security, conditions of our parks to save money, the overpaid purchase of the old post office, Gary Dykes large pay increase, the cost of city hall paying to scan websites that speak out, voting methods, treatment of fellow council members, shelters for homeless, lack of affordable housing, secret ballot to elect Karl, LRT, code of conduct, not showing up for Hespeler’s Christmas parade, paying to drive a council member, polluted wells, water rates, consulting costs, and lots more. Can anyone tell me what our 3 Regional council members have done for us since 2014? The beat goes on. The team is getting prepared. Will it be ward 1 or ward 6? I’m loaded for bear. Debbie. Your site has been a gift for Cambridge. You have informed so many on so many issue in this city. I am applying for woman of the year for Cambridge. Thank-you from all good people here. Time to DRAIN THE SWAMP!
