Unsung HEROES AMONGST US.. Tommy and Lucy Vann..

I might get in trouble here for posting this…(by Tommy), as he never boasts to anyone about his and Lucy’s huge hearts..

… But I have to tell you about my dear friends…

I have had the pleasure of knowing these two beautiful people for the past 10 years or so.

They are beyond a doubt two of the most loving, generous and amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing..

For the past 10 years plus… I have been invited to Tommy and Lucy’s home for a special Christmas dinner.

Attendance requires you to donate, a turkey, gift card for food or whatever you can give.

This meal is amazing, no short cuts here.. And every meal was exceptional well maybe not the year Tommy decided the mash potatoes needed salmon added to them..

But the love and laughter we share during those dinners will remain with me forever..

Tommy has volunteered in most events in Cambridge.. Each year he would host a Golf Tournament and donate the money collected thru this tournament to Argus house.

He was heavily involved in the Southwood High School reunion for years

The Cambridge Hall of Fame.. the list goes on and on.. I can’t ask him what else he does because I don’t want him to know what I’m up too here..

Yes Tommy comes off as a hard ass.. That’s his amour.. But this man has a heart of pure GOLD

As does Lucy..

A quick funny story, and trust me there have been plenty.. We have shared so many laughs over the years, but this one sticks in my mind..

Tommy started volunteering for the Salvation Army kettle drive for the past several years..

(As if he doesn’t have enough on his plate..)

Here is what he told me.. He asked the Salvation Army which location is the worse for robberies?

And when they told him,… he replied.. I WILL TAKE THAT LOCATION…

He said the look on the Majors face was priceless..

* Duly noted* ….That location has not been robbed since Tommy took over the location.

I spoke with Tommy the other day and this is the reason I had to tell his story..

He has been busy this past month, with helping more families in need.. With food vouchers, Christmas dinners, gift cards, toys for the children..

He also offers (free of charge), Golf club sets to our youth wanting to start golfing but can’t afford the clubs.. He collects them during the year from Golf Courses.

But this following story struck at my heart and summed up the beauty of these two amazing people.

One family in particular was in dire straits and this single Mom told Tommy that her Mother was terminally ill and they didn’t expect her to be here for Christmas this year..

The first thing Tommy asked her was.. “What can we do for your Mother?”

When she responded back to Tommy, she said the only thing her Mom wanted was a perm in her hair.

She knew her time was drawing near and she wanted to look good when her time came..

Lucy Vann made sure she got her wish.. She passed away shortly thereafter, but had her hair done..

If only more of us, took the time to do half of what this amazing couple does for our community.

Can you imagine what an amazing thing that would be?

So in closing.. I have to say; I have been blessed beyond words to call you two beautiful souls my friends.

I forgot to mention, you both also raised 3 beautiful Daughters.. Who are equally amazing.. ( great job!)

I love you both and wish you and your family…

a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New year….

Love and Best Wishes.

Wow – what a story. We knew he had a good heart. Thanks for sharing this story with us. They certainly are a great example of what human people should be and how they should act to others. All through the year!
Lets say a prayer that all people reading this will “pass on the word” and try and follow their giving way of life.
Thanks Tom, Lucy & family for being who you are.
Merry Christmas & a very Happy Healthy 2018.

The real hero is Lucy who somehow has managed to not hold a big fat pillow over his head while he sleeps.

Have not known Tommy and Lucy for very long but let me say this. Tommy has a heart of gold and even though he may come across as a ‘hard ass’ thats not true at all.
Tommy is a man who does not like to see injustice or anyone maligned in any way.
Tommy will help anyone in need, no matter what the circumstances. People like Tommy and Lucy are ‘The Good Samaritans’ that are talked about in the Bible and they do it not asking or looking for a reward or to be patted on the back. That is how it should be.
Both Tommy and Lucy are LIGHTS in this dark world. They have chosen to let their LIGHT shine in the community in a very humble and rewarding way.
I am glad that Tommy considers me a friend.
I consider him a friend and a person I want to get to know better and will always admire.

Merry Christmas to you Tom and Lucy and to your lovely family as well.

Continue to be a LIGHT in this community and in closing just let me say you would be a AWESOME Councillor to represent the people of this community

I too would recommend Tommy as a Cambridge councillor and believe me it’s a rare thing for me to recommend anybody for public office (O.K. Jan as well). I haven’t seen Tommy in a while but hopefully will in the new year. Thank you Debbie for reminding us about Tommy and Lucy’s big hearts. Merry Christmas all!

Merry Christmas Alan, Betty and Family.. I hope Tommy does run, but I keep saying this over and over and over..
We don’t stand a chance now that they have opted ( again) for electronic ballots.. Just my personal opinion here..lol

Well, there goes my reputation. It just is a way of life that we both enjoy. Showing our girls and grandkids the path is our goal. Yes, Lucy and I are involved but I must state that there are others in our community that have come to us and contributed resources as anonymous donors that put giving over the top. These people seek no attention, only satisfaction. The lady with the perm passed Dec. 19th. Bill passed a short while ago from cancer. Hats off to them. Lucy and I have everything so giving is easy and rewarding. The rewards….the eyes tell everything. To me, corruption takes from our community, hence some of my rants. Thanks Deb, and to all those that helped us and those that help others. My dad used to say; look into the mirror and if you don’t like what you see, fix it. Lucy told me to fix it. Thanks all for the kind words. All the best to you all. Tommy.

  9. Old but not Senile December 23, 2017 at 10:52 am

Tommy I am so proud of you that you listened to exactly what your dad told you…You do look into the mirrors and the faces of people and when you don’t like something you take every effort you have to fix it or make it right.
Genuine people like you are very rare in the community. Fighting for the destitute, trying to take the corruption out of the community and replace it with good, even at the expense of your reputation.
Thank you Tommy…Never change…You are a blessing from heaven..
And maybe in 2018 things will change down at City Hall for the greater good because of you…

    Merry Christmas my friend

I watched you tube the other day about a homeless man that gave everything he had to help a stranger. While sitting on a park bench with his knapsack, a just purchased sleeping bag and pillow the homeless man overheard a young man telling his wife he couldn’t buy the needed drugs for their daughter because he didn’t have enough money. After the man hung up (head in his hands) the homeless guy asked the man to watch his knapsack. He returned, giving all the money he got from returning his new knapsack and pillow at Target and gave that money to the young man for his daughter’s drugs even though he hadn’t eaten that day and needed the money himself. The young man thanked the man and told him he was on camera. He then gave the homeless guy $500.00 for his kind act. The homeless man broke down crying and thanked him. Wow.

Wow – this is the man for us to vote for – whatever he is running for – he has our vote.
Getting to know this man & his family is just such a heart-warming story. They are honest, kind, generous, common sense people, give to others without even thinking about it.
We cannot say enough about this person & we sure hope he runs for something in this City to keep eyes on what is happening & to keep everyone thinking as Tom does – with a common sense approach & what is best for others – not a selfish thought in this man’s head. He is a very special person. He has our vote…..
You are a great couple – wonderful parents & a gift to all that know you.

Haven’t been on this page for awhile, so just now saw this. Every word is true. Tommy and his family are top-notch in every way.
If we all did 1/100th of what they do for others the world would be a much better place.
