So much for Douggie, now let us keep reminding Kathy that she is Mayor of ‘all’ Cambridge and not just the NDPers among us! And no special deals behind peoples’ backs.

  2. Debbie Duff Vitez October 23, 2018 at 10:41 am

No worries Gary.. she is the real deal.. and the real good news is this

No more internet voting or games of closing voting stations and polling locations and confusing the voting public.

CRAIG GOT WHAT WAS COMING TO HIM.. Karma sometimes takes a while to kick in..

Benn is bitching about the dirty election. Does he mean Kayla and Doug? He is finished as a politician. People saw through his vote split and facebook friends. Tucker made a fool of himself and he’s done. The people have spoken and all the sour grapes won’t change it. Failed candidates and one winner. Nice work Kathryn. See you at council.

    where is he saying this

  5. RK October 24, 2018 at 8:09 am

I find it interesting that Doug Craig’s son called me out on facebook and said that even though I may not agree with his policies I should not be mocking him.
Well I also find it interesting that it was okay for Doug Craig to ‘mock’ Kathryn McGarry in his campaign with the altered photo that was taken when the pedestrian bridge was opened downtown.
As far as I am concerned all respect was lost when that happened and let the chips fall where they may.

When you look at the picture on this page as well, come on now what does that tell you about Doug?

Did I say I will help him move things out of City Hall yes, did I say he needs to give up the big chair, did I say don’t let the door hit him in the butt on his way out, yes…

Mr. Craig may have done good things for this City in his early terms, but the last couple terms he changed and it was not for the betterment of the taxpayers.
It made people in this city feel more like and “I am in charge’ attitude and many people would not even speak up because the felt their voice would go unheard because the mind of the Mayor was made up before they would even enter council chambers…so yes Mr. Craig’s son may have thought that the things I said were mocking but I am sure many other residents feel the same way; I was only one of a few to willingly say so out loud

Never feel guilty for telling the truth. Maybe his son can explain to all how people were hurt during the 2010 election with all the locations closed, card mix ups and machine breakdowns. Craig will never get any sympathy from me. l was not able to vote in 2010 because of the mess on the West side. We were told to go home at 8. No, l will pass down to my kids what a prick he was to many and how his legacy was more important than doing the right thing. Sour grapes to the losers this round. l have no pity. The only parade for Craig should be that he’s leaving. At least Cambridge has a good councillor in Liggett. That’s right, she got screwed over by who? young Craig. Think about it.

  7. mjqsmith@bell.net'
Maggie Smith October 24, 2018 at 11:10 am

Wow I sure agree with RK. No Craig lost our respect years ago & with this nonsense of the Sports Complex – where he had already decided where it was going before any discussion with the citizens of Cambridge or Sports people who would be using it – sure put people off Craig. He put the “Cart before the Horse” far too many times. Then he had 5 of the Councillors under his thumb. No thinkers. Then the night the expert Alexsander came to speak on the weakness of Internet voting. ALL COUNCILLORS (but Craig & Reid) VOTED TO HEAR HIM SPEAK – but before he did there was a break & Craig went around to all the councillors to change their minds – really – well Alexsander spoke & when he left you could see a message sent TO Best who went out & verbally attacked Alexsander until friends stepped in to stop it. We were there to witness all this. It is even on video if you wish to watch it for yourself, so sonny, your dad got voted out because we were tired of his antics & his spending millions on things we don’t need and not looking after the things that we do need. His time was up – it was just too bad he didn’t step away when he could have done so without being defeated at such a high percentage to show Cambridge taxpayers were tired of his legacy spending. The people have spoken so let our new Mayor get on with the job she has in front of her. Craig had 18 yrs. to make Cambridge great, but he was too busy spending our money on his legacy projects – such as the BRIDGE TO NOWHERE, without figuring out how to help the low-income & homeless & instead of spending millions on the Old Post Office he might have found a perfect use for the Preston Springs which could have housed lots of low-income or homeless people The chance was there & he blew it. So our support goes to the New Mayor!!

It is very interesting – Craig’s son coming to life – in the short time I have known Kathryn – met her whole family.
In all the years I have known Craig – never hear of his family or his wife.
Knew his mother – when they weren’t getting along.
I wonder why this is? More into spending Taxpayers money on nonsense than spending time with his family I guess.
Yay – Kathryn – do the City proud. Make us a good City again.
Be accountable & transparent. Help to look after low-income families & the needy.

I wonder if it’s Craig posting under his son’s name..
      Wouldn’t surprise me..

Just got home from work and Craig along with Tucker plus Tucci have signs left out all over the city. Maybe Kayla can run out and help Tucci pick them all up. She might even put a add on a Lowes fridge to say they need help. Failed candidates leaving such a mess. I guess you can’t see them from Toronto. Craig’s campaign guy sounds like he’s drunk on facebook and losing his shit. Sore losers. Probably eating sour grapes tonight. Nice to see Gary Price get his ass kicked by a girl. Another failed candidate that should have stayed in his ward but couldn’t beat someone as bad as Adshade. McGarry kicked some butt big time.

  10. Glad it’s over October 24, 2018 at 6:53 pm

Sour grapes. An interesting term that has been used here. I wonder why someone would say this. Maybe they have had experience here. Hmmm
Well on making this. it’s the City it deserves to be.

Tom Vann October 24, 2018 at 10:19 pm

Hey everyone….Kathryn won!. We had a super party at Chicago the other night and it was packed. Nice to see the ex-mayor show up to congratulate Kathryn. I have been busy doing her signs and it has been so nice to see people come out of their homes to congratulate our team. People in this town are pleased change happened. Yes Tucci, Tucker and Craig still have a lot of their signs still to be p/u but they never had the team we did so give them time. I don’t do Facebook Devine but I heard it might have been Jerry which is not like him I hear. As for the sour grapes phrase I heard this locally years ago by Doug supporters when the manipulated election of 2010 took place and people couldn’t vote and polling stations were closed and people were not informed. People complained and were labelled sour grapes by Doug supporters for complaining if I recall. Myself, I’m glad he is done. In the beginning I liked him but boy did he change. He was advised not to run again I’m told and when he ran against the best this election he got creamed. Yes he is a failed candidate and many things that his team did this election cost him big time. Again, I’m pleased the best person won and positive movement is hoped for. Perhaps I know more than most about the election dirt but they are private and don’t need to be mentioned. Speaking to so many out there in Cambridge I got to hear many surprising stories. At least the cops won’t be sent to peoples homes any more by city hall. Someone yelled out the king is dead, long live the queen in England years ago. Perhaps we can now say Doug is gone…long live Kathryn. I do believe Ben is finished for politics here. Check the numbers. A fun guy but should pack it in. Randy Carter gained my respect for trying. Doug was nasty to him in a debate but at least Randy was honest and didn’t sign block others. I will be doing business with him down the road. Other than that I’m heading to the Bahamas soon. Best wishes citizens and thank-you.

I met a fellow in Hespeler last night that didn’t like the choice for mayor and I had on my Kathryn shirt. All I said was” what has been done for Hespeler in the last 15 years sir”? Conversation over. People in Preston asked the same thing “what has Preston got”? I see Doug’s son commented above. Well, sure your dad did some good things but at what cost? He did the right thing by sticking up for dad as anyone should do. Yet I often saw both sides at council and outside I didn’t like so I questioned this. One of my biggest beefs was that City Hall was not central in the city and so many high dollar projects went to Galt only. Doug can now retire and spend time with his lovely wife. She is a gem I hear. Enjoy retirement Doug, you had a run and now a quality lady is in control. I will now go to the Mayor’s night out, the Mayor’s soup tastings, and all the other Mayor’s propaganda events. I love Cambridge.

  13. Debbie Duff Vitez October 25, 2018 at 9:44 am

Tommy, as you know I boycotted the Hamilton Theatre until he was out of office..

Because of the back room deals he pulled re: the building of it (waiving environmental testing), 50 years free rent, us paying the Tax and utilities bills etc..

Funny thing, I had to go there to vote.. First time I stepped inside the door..
So I take full credit for his being ousted.. lol

I will now join you and Lucy at all the functions this wonderful new Mayor plans..

Looks like we can bring back the slogan lt’s all right here again. l have never voted for Kathryn until this election. When l saw the bridge picture changed it made my choice easy. This was a defining moment for many l think. Good for Kathryn. Doug had to go and should probably never ran this time.

  15. Debbie Duff Vitez October 26, 2018 at 6:08 pm

I’m glad he ran and didn’t retire.. I loved the look on his defeated face on Election Night..
Might make him think about all the elections he stole from all past candidates with his illegal elections..

  16. mjqsmith@bell.net'
    Maggie October 26, 2018 at 6:38 pm

You are right re his defeated look – but I thought Kathryn had a sympathetic look for him – that is just the kind of lady she is.
Yes Deb finally KARMA – hope it was worth waiting for.
But that internet company should be fired by all that used it – they were disgusting – unprofessional – and yes – it just makes you wonder how many votes were missed or messed up & people just giving up on trying!
Ranked voting also won – so hope that goes into effect for next election.
Enjoy your satisfaction for the 2018 election & we will celebrate next week!!!

  17. ltvann@rogers.com'
Tom Vann October 26, 2018 at 7:07 pm

You’re right Deb. I remember how my ward and I got screwed in ward 6.
If you think this motivated me while out at 3-4-5-6am, you’re correct.
Everything I did drew a smile. We know it isn’t nice to gloat but too damn bad.

You and I deserve this one. Now knowing Doug was defeated and didn’t go unbroken was pleasing.
    Your apt. break in..
    The cops to my door,
    The Hamilton judge,
    The multiplex done deal,

Not allowing me to speak that night at council and then lied. I could go on.

So yes this might be hard for his son but if he only knew everything he might ask; why?
Sure nice to not hear those sour grape whiners now.

Ben may have to hire someone to clean up his signs, so much for his supporters. Yes,
his face after the election was special… In all he did some good stuff and had the stones to come to Kathryn.
    More than the others did.

I hope Mr. Tucker has learned you shouldn’t bad mouth someone like he did Kathryn on line.

Randy Carter came out the best of the defeated candidates.

I heard Ben left the Liberal party in large debt when he ran for them.

He ran a low budget election so that should tell you he wasn’t serious.

I did like the part when Ben said once he left the city fell apart.

I think Jan did a better job than Ben ever did. People did like him back then as I still do but maybe politics isn’t right for him any longer.

His family love him and stick by him which is also nice to see. Kathryn’s sign team was lights out! We drove around together some nights pissing ourselves laughing at who was the best sign man of all. We all knew who the bad boy was and at breakfast told stories of grander. It was a fun election to be part of.

Ya Deb…..we deserved this. Now on to saving our city.

Well done you two – Deb & Tom. Credit goes to both of you for letting people know what happened in 2010 & what was about to happen again in 2018.
Thanks for all the information & getting up at all hours of the night Tommy. Best sign man in town.
If Craig bought Tucci to split votes – likely his job now to clean up Tucci’s signs as it doesn’t look like Ben is going to do that – beyond him maybe.
Sorry about the apt. breakin & the “I am watching you” – guess what – we were watching him…………. ha ha.
Gloat you two – great to know you & to work with you for a purpose.
So now on with making Cambridge good again!!

  19. lvann_11@sympatico.ca'
    Sandra F October 27, 2018 at 9:10 am

Yes, good work you two. Woodfield was Ben’s campaign manager I heard. Why are his signs still out there? They had two days to clean up. Glad he wasn’t picked for mayor when he doesn’t even clean up. We were happy Liggett got back in and not the double defeated candidate Gary Price. Bill Kirby is a friend that should have won. He would have been a good councillor. What happened with the ranked ballots? Setting it at 50% voter turn-out is stupid and would never happen.

  20. mjqsmith@bell.net'
    Happy October 27, 2018 at 10:21 am

Woodfield was on the Task Force – useless!! Yes sorry Bill Kirby did not get in. Kind of a low-key campaign though. Not sure why. And re Ranked – Craig thought he was getting back in so set the Ranked setting at 50% voter turnout – as he knows we never get that – so when he got back – ha ha ha – no Ranked voting. Well we need Ranked voting – the way to go. This Online crap – was just that – crap|!! Ben’s signs still out because he was only running to split votes – so guess he figures it is up to Craig to remove his signs. Ben is back in Toronto – so he doesn’t care!
We are sorry Frank & Pam & Donna – back in – you know the Craig huggers. Hope Kathryn can turn them into “thinkers” for a change – time will tell.

This should be my last comment on the election for a while as I’m heading to Iran on a golf trip. To those that helped so greatly delivering flyers, keeping the clerk on his toes, helping me with some signs, calling the city about the polls, and Deb for her site here keeping us informed, thank-you all. Tons of hits on the Advocate during the election. You folks made a big difference. Your support was important in convincing many to vote for Kathryn. She was the only choice. She was out till dark most nights canvassing. Tell me any other candidate that did that. Change takes effort and many out there in OZ can be proud of their efforts. Thanks again. Tommy “Bad Boy” Vann.

I see Doug oops I mean David Craig has started posting about me on the Citizen and on some friends pages on facebook

David or whoever you are.. You’re entitled to your opinion just as I have for the past 10 years.. But to be honest.. My anger is gone now that you’re out of office..

I find it interesting that you’re so worried about our new Mayor..It didn’t stop you or your dirty tricks just a week or so ago..

You got what you deserved..You can post away, I will not be responding.. You’re showing what a desperate whiny baby you are.. You’re not fooling anyone..

  23. Debbie Duff Vitez October 29, 2018 at 5:45 pm

You forget, I have a very long history with this man and I recognize his writings from a mile away.. When did David become so knowledgeable about Municipal Governments? Why is he showing up now?

This has been going on for 10 years.. Either way Doug or David, they clearly are still following this site.. I just wanted to have a final say.. I have no intention of responding again to any of his rants..

I got what I wanted… to piss him off by exposing all his corruption..

  27. lvann_11@sympatico.ca'
Ken Hacker October 30, 2018 at 8:57 pm

It became about Doug and his legacy we all paid for and not about the people and needs of our community. The special treatment Galt got over the other 3 communities was voter anger and not voter apathy as stated. People talked about the new bridge, the photo-shop, and another downtown Galt redo. I think voters had enough of this man and spoke out clearly for change. City hall needs to straighten out the mess we still get during elections as well. Some things Craig did were good but not split evenly and I believe was his undoing. His lack of action on the opioid problem and homeless showed as well. My vote went elsewhere because of these reasons. He should not have run this time and that was clear. Let’s hope the change will be a good thing.

Anyone read the crap in the Record today re Craig – boy does he like himself! He gets totally blown out of being Mayor & still pats himself on the back. He is such a dope – the Old Post Office – out spent anything Preston & Hespeler ever got – what is he yapping about. The Bridge to Nowhere – was money wasted. And the site situated was put on hold by PC party – who does he think he is – more like super-goofed!! He was voted out because he raised our Tax rate so high that low-income families are struggling – he just does not understand that – with a Teacher’s pension plus his wife’s & Mayor pay plus whatever else he takes in – he just does not get it. Well the City showed him & wish he would quit praising himself – if he was that good – he’d still be in. What a blow heart he is. Get over it Doug – you’re history & not good history –

Sitting in a position now as Mayor, Kathryn has an opportunity to do many good things for Cambridge. If she is only 1/2 as good as Mayor as she was an M.P.P. we are in for a treat. Kathryn is a heck of a hard working person that I saw door knocking when the sun went down daily, and running door to door. Who does this? I also saw loyal people on her campaign team that would eat Porcupine for her. There were days as I put signs on lawns that people would come out and spend 20 minutes to tell me of so many things Kathryn has done for them or people they knew. This is not something that happens. The wave of excitement in people was unheard of. Good wishes Mayor McGarry, on your new job. We love your passion.

  30. mjqsmith@bell.net'
    MelissaD. November 3, 2018 at 3:41 pm

Mayor McGarry has her work cut out for her – as Doug has left a mess – druggies – homeless – unfinished hospital – infrastructure – Bridges – high taxes – 5 on Council who are brain dead – a down-town that is a disaster – multi-million Post Office – who I understand is not working out well – another tax burden – the Bridge to Nowhere being constant care – a Multi-plex undecided – no go-train (needed badly) – the LRT unwanted & unneeded – Preston Dam – 9 yrs. unfinished – so many other Doug-made disasters & he thinks he did a good job. And spending our tax-dollars on mega trips – including mega people down East – wasted money – No he thought by making Cambridge bigger was a good deal – what we would like is “better” – so yes Mayor McGarry has a big job ahead of her – but we wish her the best & will support her any way we can.
Good Luck Kathryn McGarry – your Worship!!

Council meeting – boring – Craig’s last night and all the poor Councillors had to say nice things about him. For some of them, it must have been hard to find those words, but guess the pressure was on and the good news is – he is GONE!! Of course some wore the McGarry T-shirts – very nice and proud of them, and only 1 sole supporter there for the out-going money spender.
Then there was the vote on the new pay raise for Mayor & Councillors & there was a vote on it – well of course – they are voting themselves in a pay raise – are they really going to turn it down – no “fat” chance & for some reason the ex-Mayor put his vote in – why – he is only to do that on a tie-vote – strange – but then of course – he would want his name on that would he not??? ha ha
Thank goodness that is over with and on with the new Mayor – changes for Cambridge coming up in the New Year.

A weight has been lifted from our shoulders folks. No more cops to peoples doors from city hall Gary. I’m guessing fewer code of conduct violations as well. I have a big surprise coming to Dixon St. in the new year.

Darn – missed that shocked look on Dyke. I kept waiting for Security to show up – you know – to keep those vicious people in line – remember when!! I guess Craig just had some extra funds laying around to waste on Security. It was unneeded & unnecessary! But I guess we know how he likes to spend someone else’s tax dollars – right. You know on Old Post offices – paying more than value – a Bridge we did not need & have to maintain$ – you know the routine – blowing$$$$$$$
Another Teacher who does not know how average people live – on a fixed income!!
Can hardly wait for the surprise on Dixon St.

I took great pleasure in helping Kathryn become mayor. The years of being screwed by Doug are in the mirror. Plenty of growing pains for our new mayor I’m sure but there is light there. Watching Doug get crushed in the election brought great joy to me and many others. Three weeks before the election I was sure we had it but I wanted annihilation. Now work is in progress to not allow him the P.C. nod. I did not forget the 2010 election that I got hosed for Doug. You became my mission in life and now I’m there. I for one am sure glad your not mayor nor ever will be again. Fade away like a bad fart.
