Debbie’s wish list for Cambridge Election 2010

My wish list for this election

I have to say, I am blown away with the number of amazing people running.

If nothing else, Cambridge, we have already started to make a difference with so many of you stepping up and voicing your opinions… Trust me city hall is listening.

So many amazing people running… but… if I had to stick my neck out on this one, I would say John Cosman  (and nothing against the rest of you)..

I just think we need a Lawyer on board (for all those little illegal acts that constantly happen with this current council)

Mike Toffner and Brian Santos are also good choices.. KEIFER HAS TO GO !!

( Kick Tucci to the curb… QUICKLY)

This one is tough as well..

Pam Wolfe also has to go, I was so excited when she got in, but quickly seen how she was voting…

NO WAY ON FRANK MONTEIRO!!.  Flashy politician…Not in it for us, in my opinion…

I don’t see us benefiting from him being on OUR CITY COUNCIL.

I watched Frank Monteiro jump ship on his neighbours when we were in the depth of the Northstar fiasco.. ( This TCE issue again)

In my opinion he did not give a rats behind for how his fellow neighbours were suffering.. All he did was praise Northstar…

I spoke to him at that rally last weekend at City Hall, and he was talking down a neighbour that suffered hell at the hands of Northstar.. I know for a fact that Northstar denied this family life saving equipment, unless they signed a waiver guaranteeing they never sue Northstar.. He just shrugged his shoulders and walked away!!!!!

Sorry Frank you do not deserve a seat on our council.. This is about the people of Cambridge and what’s best for them and I don’t believe you’re that person.. It appears to me… it’s all about you…

We need dedicated Public Servants..

And yes I know you were a cop, but we paid you for that job… And thank you for your years of service.

I heard about the Gala Event that was thrown in your honor last weekend… That must have cost you the equivalent of what you will make in a year as councillor.. ( I can’t wait to see the bill !!)

I don’t get it. Why are you so desperate to win this seat???.. It makes me very suspicious.

If you can’t care about your immediate neighbours… how in hell are you going to care about Ward 7, people you don’t even know, or the People of our City?

WARD 8. I have to say Gail Moorhouse will fight hard for her Ward and our City.

Public School Trustee… Colin Carmichael

Separate School Trustee… Wendy Price

Regional Council… Robert Ross and Glen Whetham

Regional Chair… Robert Mulligan (Time for Seiling to go)

THERE YOU HAVE IT: My wish list for Election 2010

(All the above is my personal opinion and in this country that is still my right)…

I invite you to add your favourites here … and please

Vote your gut; read about the Candidates… they all have a Bio and a Platform

It’s sad to hear about the tribulations and severe struggle the families mentioned went through, first with TCE, then with Northstar.

I would agree with most of what you said…with one exception. Indeed pick VISARIO MOUSTAKAS for Ward 2.

( sorry Visario, you’re more then welcome to post your list here,
I will not promote the other site).

    All the best
    Visario Moustakas, Ward 2 Candidate

All through The Advocate, I read about the desire for “change” for the City of Cambridge. Just wondering why the author didn’t think of “change” for her selection in Ward 1. Her pick was the city’s solicitor for years. The city HAS lawyers and doesn’t necessarily need a lawyer on council just because he happens to be a lawyer. If we really want change, any of the other candidates would be great picks! Especially those candidates who will bring fresh perspective to the city’s issues having chosen the city as home post Cambridge amalgamation! Just a thought!

Barb, I commend all who have stepped up for this Election and I believe most running can get the job done.
The reason I went with John Cosman was simple.. As you said…He was the City Lawyer for years and it’s my hope, he stepped up to stop some of the nonsense. It’s that simple.. Nothing personal honest..

I guess you didn’t comment because you can’t find a way to tell the truth Debbie.

You’re right, I have become known as someone who lies..
Give me a break.. it’s so obvious who you are… it’s sad. I see you’re back with a new email address.

Be Carefull it’s the privacy act

Walter Monteiro October 23, 2010 at 8:31 pm

Wow Debbie, I’m really surprised at how long winded your comments about Frank Monteiro are in comparison to the other candidates. You seem to be at a loss for words commenting on everybody else. That makes me very suspicious as well. It almost sounds like you have an old vendetta to fulfill. Have you got an axe to grind with our local constabulary

As for turning his back on his neighbours, I’m not exactly sure how you come to this conclusion. After all you use to live in that neighbourhood and have since moved. Frank still lives there, so who’s turning their back on whom? Your interpretation of his response to the unfortunate family…, what would you have him do? In his current position he’s powerless.

Your remark on representing people he doesn’t know is laughable. Frank is originally from East Galt, and not to mention the large Portuguese population in the ward that Frank happens to know very well. Oh, and by the way, with respect to the so called “party” on the 17th, it was hosted by the Oriental Sports Sports Club in conjunction with well known Portuguese business groups. An invitation was extended to all candidates in Cambridge and North Dumfries. Many candidates were present and all had an opportunity to address those who attended. The bill for the evening was the responsibility of the organizers who took it upon themselves to provide this excellent public forum.

As his brother I know people will read this and assume that of course I have a bias but I can honestly tell you that Frank performed his job as a policeman very well. Was he paid? Of course he was, but I can’t count the number of times he went above and beyond the call to help people even when he wasn’t on the clock.

Frank is a very charismatic person. He’s very influential and he honestly cares about people. It’s just his nature. When Frank told me he wanted to run for office, I told him I thought he was nuts. I tried to encourage him to just get his real estate license and join me in the business. I know for sure with his contacts and reputation he’d make a fortune. But it’s not about the money for Frank. He truly does love to serve and I know for a fact he’d pour his heart and soul into this job.

A few months before his retirement, I went to an awards ceremony in which Frank received a community service award for serving his community above and beyond the call of Duty. What was interesting was there were many other fine police officers there with very similar years of duty. But Frank stood on that stage alone being the only officer that received that award.

Frank served this community with his heart and if he’s elected I know he will continue to do so.

    Hi Walter
    Welcome to the Advocate…
If you had been following this site you would know that I take no prisoners when it comes to the people of the Bishop Street community and how they were treated.

Do you have any idea how many people have died over there or are dying as I type this? Or how many brain tumours, kidney cancers, lupus, liver disease is in that neighbourhood?

I do… And had Frank paid any attention instead of singing Northstars praises, I would have a totally different opinion of him today…

I know what was said between Frank and I at the rally.

I am not going to justify my opinion of your brother, I know what happened.

I will not vote or promote anyone who takes the side of business over human life…

I have taken this council to task on numerous occasions here on this site.. I make no secret of my feelings for Doug Craig, Ben Tucci and Karl Keifer for their lax attitude to the pollution in our city.

Walter Monteiro October 24, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Ah! So it is an axe you have to grind, I see. If someone doesn’t share the same opinion as you with regards to Bishop St then you feel you have the liberty to trash them or call them flashy or even question the amount of the “bill” for events which they attended? That seems a tad irresponsible for someone who manages a site such as yours.

Debbie, I’m in no position to judge the actions of people who may be suffering as a result of that whole Northstar issue but I assume due process has been followed and from my observation, Northstar has really stepped up to the plate to remedy these unfortunate circumstances.

The catastrophic illnesses which you described are devastating and life altering to all who are touched by them. Unfortunately; I can look at any corner of this city and find the same list of ailments. Who’s responsible for these illnesses? Who knows? What I do know is that companies like Northstar don’t have an exclusive on how certain chemicals were dealt with. Yesterday’s industry standards are today’s “violations” and that is how new standards are set. Try buying a piece of industrial real estate anywhere in the more mature parts of the city and you’ll encounter some form of contamination almost 100% of the time.

What I’m seeing here is a person so enraged by a single issue that all other issues that this city faces are irrelevant. All I ask is that you are fair in your judgments and assessments before using your soap box strictly for your own benefit.

  10. Debbie Duff Vitez October 24, 2010 at 7:57 pm

I wasn’t going to respond to you Walter; I understand you’re doing damage control for your brother.
    I get that.
Please do not come here and insult me just because I have an opinion of someone that you happen to be related too.
If you knew anything about my soap box.. You would know I have been fighting here for the past 2 years for clean water as well… for all of Cambridge..

Something tells me, you have only read one part of the Advocate..And that pertained to your brother..

Ok so for clarity.. That gala wasn’t put on for Frank?(you’re saying he only attended it.?)
See this can go on and on.. Let’s just leave it alone shall we..
I do not like Politicians who are in it for them.. Simple..
    My opinion, my soap box..

    hahaha October 24, 2010 at 9:37 pm

  12. Debbie Duff Vitez October 24, 2010 at 9:43 pm

Now I wonder where that came from?
We all have an opinion and that’s

Brad Handleman October 25, 2010 at 12:52 am

Deb, unfortunately for you, this wish lists looks like an 8 year old girls Christmas list…no matter how many times she asks for a pony, its just not going to happen…The only difference is eventually the 8 year old grows up… You will be disappointed tomorrow evening Deb, but whether you admit it or not, you will be better off without this list.

  14. Debbie Duff Vitez October 25, 2010 at 2:09 am

You’re awful sure of yourself Brad.! How is that I wonder?
You know something the rest of us don’t?

    So Debbie,

Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas?
No Brad, I didn’t, but you knew I wouldn’t didn’t you? What I got was the same crooks, that were running our City on Oct 24th in my personal opinion..

Something tells me he knew plenty, this Election was over before it began..Dam shame all those that knocked on doors and spent their hard earned money didn’t have the same inside track as BRAD obviously had!!!

You know what I think Brad.. I think most of them lost their seats… (And I think you know it)
I think you ran a Poll sometime prior to June, and found out who was going and who was staying and you didn’t like the results…
I think this is when you decided it a good idea to change the Polling Stations and conveniently forgot to properly notify the Public.
Then forget to send out Voter Registrations… Cause bedlam… and knowing human nature, they would walk away in droves.. Or make it so dam hard for them to enter the facility, again they walk away.
Then hire workers who could not possibly keep up with the numbers you had arriving at those stations, they were so overwhelmed they actually asked people to leave!
Then to guarantee your results, you omitted to properly inform (some of the) Candidates, so they too were caught off guard on Election Day.
Then I suspect you had some help with those ballots, and to guarantee the win you screwed with the Seniors… Did I say all that out loud?
( all the above is my personal opinion)

RE-reading my posts from October 25th.
What an interesting Election it turned out to be.

  20. Debbie Duff Vitez May 19, 2012 at 12:13 pm

#17 and 18.. Sums the election up for me..
On Election night he was online at 11.47 gloating about his win.
Brad knew what was going on.. and funny enough, he disappeared right after this election.

I have a pretty good idea on who he is..

I just bet he won’t be around for the 2014 Election.. just sayin.

( funny enough.. my apartment was broken into on November 25th.. again just sayin)
    So I pissed someone off..
