Corruption at City Hall? by Scot Ferguson

old post office1

old ps2

Let me get this straight.

Landmark Holdings buys the Post Office and guts it with plans to open a restaurant. They gut the interior and completely destroy it so no one else wants it.
The city then buys the building from Landmark and gives them an exclusive, untendered deal on the restaurant that will be in the building.
The city buys the building next to it, where there are established businesses, to tear the building down to “improve the view of the river.”
Now Landmark wants an exemption to the building height bylaw to put up a new highrise, next to the river, which will block the view of the river.
You can’t tell me that someone at City Hall isn’t in Landmark’s pocket.
I have to wonder how many free lunches Hardy Bromberg and his crew at the planning department had at the Mill Restaurant while this scheme was hatched.
So far I have discovered that Bromberg’s family owns a land development company.

This matter definitely requires further investigation.

    Dear Mr. Mayor,

Could you please explain fully, all the economic spin-offs that will benefit Cambridge (Galt, Preston & Hespeler) in regards to the new electronic library which is the Old Galt Post Office? I believe this is not the first time this question has been raised and I am confident it won’t be the last.

For your information, it is the “right” of all the citizens (the electorate) of Cambridge, in that they know exactly how much and where their tax dollars are being spent, albeit wastefully or legitimately. I would invite any Cambridge taxpayer to request a “total project cost” upon completion.

This is in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and the fee for such records is $5.00 and will be available at Cambridge city hall.

In closing, please be advised that we, the Cambridge Citizen’s Alliance, will be requesting full disclosure on all costs, whether it be overruns, furnishings, finishes and overtime etc. when this project is complete.

Your co-operation and understanding in this matter, would be greatly appreciated.

    Roy A. Talbot

This Post Office cost is ridiculous. To spend so much in one small area. Then again for downtown Galt. Not good for the whole of Cambridge.
Then we have the Bridge to NOWHERE & NOWHERE it is. Ridiculous – please don’t tell me paid for by Hydro profits – just where do you think these profits come from – us taxpayers – paying our Hydro bills. Dumb dumb & dumber.
And yet the Preston dam gets ignored. That Park is used a lot. And yet the City ignores the fact that it needs to be fixed. FIX IT.
No more projects Craig – fix this dam. Pretend it is downtown GALT and fix it. I just don’t see that this so-called Bookless Post Office is going to help many. It is time for a big shakeup at City Hall. The Mayor is running away with too many senseless projects.

Well looks like more projects – Red Cross Bldg., & Magnotta Wine property – oh dear what magical project is planned for here.
No dam repair in Preston – should be done now while the machinery is all there.
But of course that would call for some planning – which we have a lack of here.
Darn – I forgot – not in Galt – oh dear – that’s right only in Galt do we spent tons & tons of money on useless projects – the bookless Library – the BRIDGE TO NOWHERE.
    Ridiculous…..

I will never vote for Mrs. Wolf again. I didn’t think she was this bad until lately. Shame on her antics.

Good to here Mary. She needs to get the boot. In court, I saw what she was like and was disappointed she reps. this city. Too bad we can’t get our damn done in Preston ’cause there is no money. I have mentioned this often to people in Mike’s ward. No drive to spend a dime in our Preston…thanks Mr. Mann, move to Galt. I guess that’s what happens once you get so much pension cash. I see Ray Martin wrote about poor Doug getting undo heat from the dark side about his fantastic spending of our tax $$$ in Galt, and that he is Mr. Clean and not understood. Ray, we understand him perfectly. Hence the resistance movement. We have no money Doug. Pay off our debts and start furbishing our parks and maintaining our city. It is noted that the river will only be seen from the bridges on day with the 100′ allowance for buildings along the river properties. I want our city back. Vann for Mayor 2018! Give us back our city. I guess we will have to pray for Doug.

Maggie Smith December 15, 2016 at 11:11 am

Hey Tom – you probably meant – fix our damn dam!
And when you read all the excuses Wolf had for not walking straight – it is very hard to trust anything she says at Council. But I understand someone writes for her so her uh uh’s aren’t so much. Guess she can’t help the uh uh’s – but she could help lying about why she could not walk straight. Own up Pam!
Wish everyone would complain to the Ombudsman – about Cambridge’s situation!! I did but have not heard back yet. Maybe they are checking with Craig first to see what he wants the Ombudsman to do. Oh dear – goes on & on …..

Lest we forget…the Mayors son owns rental property across from the downtown Galt bus terminal…and remember that this is not considered a conflict.

The Mayor and Monteiro accepted donations from developers and Simon Poladian, an admitted 1 million tax fraud criminal
    .

Ironically, Council keeps on approving Poladians requests contrary to any concerns and developers get the go ahead and restrictions are ignored. Also, Southgate made contributions and now get a pedestrian bridge and waived development charges for developer of Gaslight District.

It is not the public asking for these projects, but those who want to make money off their own lands or businesses…and the donations are only what is advertised…can you imagine what happens behind “closed doors”?

We need a watchdog at every meeting. The Mayor is giving tax payers hard earned money away like candy at Halloween…now that’s scary.

There was a man actually going around the Mall the other day saying he was going to run against Ms. Wolf I was quite surprised at his Campaigning this soon but there he was and I must say he is very, very well known in the Community, so there is hope

Woot woot!!! Say goodbye to the Wolf who has gnawed at our pocket books for too long. She almost didn’t make it the last election as it was very close between her and one other.

Now all we need is ONE strong and well spoken and professional individual to run against the Mayor. No more split votes by having too many since he is delaying ranked ballot voting. I do believe the Mayor pays the costs for a couple of them to run with him to take votes away but knowing these individuals could never win.

But people have had enough and look what just happened in the States with Trump. When enough is enough, people will do crazy things just to “drain the swamp”.

  11. Debbie Duff Vitez December 16, 2016 at 9:44 am

We simply need to take control of our Elections..

No more questionable electronic votes/ballots, where you can’t scrutinize the results..
    ( tabulators, internet, telephone votes)

I think enough people are finally fed up with what has gone on with our questionable/ creative municipal elections for the past 10 plus years..

I firmly believe you will see a large turn out, picketing city hall demanding a fair process when it comes to casting our ballot.

    ALL LOCATIONS OPEN..

    NO MORE VOTER SUPPRESSION..

NO MORE PLAYING WITH OUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS..

It’s punishable by law and a jail term could be the result this time around..

Corruption at city hall! There’s something new. Ha, ha, ha. Mr. Dyke seems to be doing more work screwing the process and public than he is finding ways to improve our city. I’m on that list that do not like his ways. No lost love between us, that’s for sure.

Maggie Smith December 18, 2016 at 3:03 pm

Why if the gaslight project is for profit – why are we giving them money. If you want to run a business – do you always ask for handouts? Don’t understand this City – always handing out money, building Bridge to NOWHERE (Dyke – it is still to nowhere) and paying top bucks for property in the City, give give give – but when it comes to building us a top notch Multiplex – the Mayor GIVES it to another business – he isn’t helping any business in this City – especially our Mall trying to keep open. Does the Mayor really understand what is going on in Cambridge – like the Mall – Restaurants – Hotels – etc. – trying to make a living & he sends this to Kitchener – he needs his head read – or just FIRED!!!

I hear that someone named Nic Woodfield is running against Wolf. I have never heard of him, has anyone else?

  14. lwhetham@live.ca'
cuzin Joe December 22, 2016 at 9:47 pm

He is the son of Richard Woodfield and worked for Rob Leone when Rob was the MPP He is involved in the P.C. Party and is very Political, I also heard that a fellow named Gary Clark is going to run against Wolf….so already the vote will be split

I know both these boys and they are so pissed at the way Pam has been voting and her treatment of certain council members that aren’t NDP has put the need to rid Pam thought into their heads. I will be speaking to both in the future. I guess my past conversations have hit a nerve. Just trying to get the swamp drained. I also have a friend running in Preston that I have spoken to and is pissed. Seems a lot of taxpayers aren’t too happy these days. I always mention how the budget is being manipulated. Hang onto your wallets folks the ride is only starting.

If anyone is planning to run against that drunken driver Pam Wolf, then I would hope that they would be starting to speak up in support of West Galt issues that Pam is ignoring before the neighbourhood gets destroyed. They can’t ride the sidelines and then hope to be voted in as a replacement, just to be no different than keeping their mouth shut and agreeing with whatever their “leader” has to say.

  17. lwhetham@live.ca'
cuzin Joe December 28, 2016 at 10:17 am

I do not understand how Wolf keeps voting on items like the Bridge, Southworks new development, the old Post office, and the list goes on and on when she lives 2 blocks away from these Developments, is that not a conflict of interest? as these items will increase the value of her Home.
