Just found out today that we have a $3,000 water bill for the last 2 month period. This mystery amount happened just before they changed out the old meter.

Just got some more information from my wife who has been on the phone with the water department for most of the afternoon. They say that 814 cubic meters was used which is 814,000 liters. We have an in-ground pool which holds about 110,000 liters to put things into perspective. I think that even if I had a leaky toilet it would take more then 2 months of that leak volume to fill the pool just once, let alone 7-8 times that volume.

Or another way of looking at it is the 814,000 liters equates to 135,667 toilet flushes. Again, kind of hard to do over a 2 month period.
