Deb, Do NOT pay any of this! Indeed you should be looking at options, but not at the City level.
A few years back, a few of us requested information from the MOE…we requested EVERYTHING to do with the issue….going back 10 years. The stuff came in 3 boxes …I’d say about 5000 pages…all e-mail… everything…our cost was $400.

It would be interesting to see what the Privacy Commissioner would say about the costs in this letter. FOI means Freedom of information…I would say your City doesn’t appreciate the word freedom.

“left field”? How about over the moon ? $7,480 ? What an insult to the public. What an insult to democracy. What an insult to FOI legislation. Freedom of information means just that. We’ve all already paid for it, over and over again with our taxes and these schm#*@*^ s have the nerve to quote you $7,480. SHAME!

I don’t think the City can get away with using ‘vexatious’ as a means, unless Deb allows them to do so, by dropping the issue. The decision would be hers now.

If appealling this fee estimate, it would be examined by the Privacy Commissioner’s office, and they would make the decision as to it being a reasonable estimate, and that it would not discourage the average citizen of apply for said information. They would also be the ones to decide if Deb’s request is vexatious.

It is the City that should have come back to Deb … in a less vexatious way …as they are responsible for municipal FOI requests, and asked for specifics. Then they would see if the search could be narrowed down. Only once the field has been narrowed down should they have sent her the estimate. LOL… at this point, Deb can claim that the City was being vexatious in their reply with that estimate of …what was the first one….$300,000???????

I would hope that the CAMPAIGN MANAGER stays out of any Staff Offices and is not allowed to enter the City Hall during Election Time and that all Blackberrys are not allowed to be used during the Election Time…and yes I am dreaming……
