I am submitting this with the permission and on behalf of the lady with the original 4900 water bill.. check out how badly these professionals (?) at city hall are treating her..

Wait until this happens to you!

It is inevitable because the City of Cambridge has been ignoring any/and all complaints (quite flippantly and rudely) about abnormal high water meter readings since 2010 and continue to do so.

I’ve literally been fighting City Hall since May 26, 2014 about a $4,910.79 water bill stating the amount was for a two month period.

Also, a most recent water bill in the amount of $363.50 due to the water billing department plugging in their own reads without any clearly marked explanation. (Thank goodness I’ve been recording my own water meter reads on a regular basis since May 27, 2014). Please understand the unfathomable usage of water pertaining to the above $4,910.79.

My whole house would be flooded, probably removed from its foundation and seen floating down the street! I have never dealt with such intimidation, arrogance and nonprofessional with any business as at the City of Cambridge.

It is evident to me that they are covering up a lot of mistakes and malfunctions. Aware and informed are the following:

Mayor (Doug Craig),

Chief Administrative Officer (Gary Dyke),

Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer (Steven Fairweather),

Manager of Tax/Water Division (Nancy Reay), Councillor of Ward 5 (Pam Wolf),

Regional Councillor (Karl Kiefer) and last but not least Legal Services (Cheryl Zahnleiter) .

I implore everyone who is accountable for paying a water/waste water bill to take this comment seriously.

Please know that a consultant is being hired by the City of Cambridge (at the taxpayers’ expense) to investigate the absurd ongoing water billing problem.

Supposedly, Gary Dyke (the new CAO for the City of Cambridge) was initially appointed this responsibility.

Please research any and all information pertaining to the water bill problem in the City of Cambridge. i.e. bjackson@cambridgetimes.ca/May 14, 2013 “Water meter test ‘complimentary’ if meter amiss.

Also, Sandra Hill’s website referencing the Badger Water Meters @ Sandrahillformayor.com/in-the-news.

I really need everyone to participate in solving this problem.

I have received many threatening notifications and most recently a letter from the legal services department (Cheryl Zahnleiter) that if I do not pay the water bill by November 07, 2014 the defaulted account amount plus administration fees plus interest will be applied to my property taxes.

Please note that I have always paid my previous water bills on time and in full. I have not paid the above bills due to principal and integrity!

A pitiful situation. We did not get these horror stories when the local hydro people did the billing. There has to be a shakeup in the dept. If the situation is not corrected then the dept. manager must be fired and his superior’s performance also examined. There is a strong possibility that air has gotten into the line. From my experience with a company that installed gas pumps, when testing before gas was in the tank, air would spin the counter at a dizzying rate. Once the tanks were filled they responded normally.

This might just happen to someone you know and that is bad. This has never happened to me but l know someone that has it happen to. Why doesn’t the mayor stop this?

Thank-you Trudy for your comment. The Mayor will only do something if you tell your friends and they tell their friends. Mayor Doug Craig knows exactly what is going on with the water bill issues in the city. He just thinks it is going to go away. We all need to come together and wake him up so he will sit up and do something about it! Debbie Duff Vitez has a separate ‘Water Bill Group’ on her facebook page. Please join.

This is a fine idea Trudy but I believe it is just too much of a money maker for our mayor to give up. Look for a sharp rise in taxes next year to pay for the LRT, rec center, and post office library oopps I meant restaurant. It is not a library folks. We should name it The buffet boys club, with the head chef Dex. Enjoy the weather and get your snow blowers ready. Clocks go back, just like your paycheck. Well, it’s off to church for me.

I seldom enter this site but when I do I hear bad stuff about the way this city is run. If you don’t like it go to a council meeting to be heard or take them to court. l don’t agree with how they spend my money either. Government has cut dollars to the bone that used to keep numerous municipalities and agency’s in line and follow the law closer. Even the food inspectors have been cut to the bone. Meat having animal tumors gets cut out then passed and products from China and Mexico flood the market with cancer causing food and product that gets little or no inspection. We get the government we allow. See how high voter turn out was in Cambridge. Who is to blame?

Trudy Oct.31st. Exactly. Why does our Mayor not step in? My bills have been pretty consistent except for one time when it hit double our regular bill. How the hell this happened is anybody’s guess. I could not afford to pay for a large bill.
